iPhone 15 Pro renders leak: Say hello to USB-C
- Renders of the iPhone 15 Pro have leaked.
- They show a sleeker phone with a USB-C port.
- The new iPhone could also get bigger camera sensors.
Renders of one of Apple’s upcoming flagships — the iPhone 15 Pro — have leaked. These images are based on CAD models of the phone obtained by 9to5Mac. As the publication notes, CAD files like these are shared by companies with case manufacturers to prepare cases for upcoming phones in advance. These particular iPhone 15 Pro CAD files were received by a factory in China.
Nevertheless, the leaked renders show all the significant changes coming to the new iPhone. Of course, these won’t be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro. We expect to see the same design elements across the iPhone 15 series.
To start with, Apple seems to have finally switched out the age-old Lightning port in favor of USB-C charging. This was inevitable, given the mandatory move to a common USB-C charging standard in the EU and other regions. Unfortunately, Apple might restrict USB-C charging and connectivity to cables approved for its MFi program for data transfer and charging speeds. A rumor on Weibo recently stated that Apple has developed its own Lightning-compatible integrated circuit board that will be used alongside the USB-C port on the iPhone 15.
Elsewhere, the iPhone 15 pro renders show a more seamless transition of the glass to the metal frame. The frame is more curved than before, which could make the phone easier to hold and less prone to slipping from the hands.
The camera bump gets thicker this time around. However, the layout of the sensors remains unchanged compared to the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro’s lenses are apparently thicker, suggesting an upgrade to larger sensors.
We might also see changes to the volume rockers and the mute switch. The former could be capacitive buttons instead of physical ones. The mute switch also seems to be getting a new design.
Up front, the Dynamic Island is still very much present, and 9to5Mac reports it’s about the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro. Overall, the phone is a few millimeters smaller than its predecessor and has thinner bezels. It could still very much retain the 6.1-inch display as before.
Meanwhile, another leak from Twitter tipster Unknownz21 shows an alleged close-up of the iPhone 15 Pro’s USB-C port. You can have a look at the image above.
